A therapist works with the muscles around the jaw and mouth to release tension

TMJ/D refers to pain in the areas directly surrounding and affected by the jaw, its muscle fibers and the motion of this area.  An extremely large amount of stress can be generated by imbalance and dysfunction in this region. Shoulder pain, neck pain, grinding of the teeth, headaches, increased eye pressure and sinus pressure, to name just a few.  Our therapists may work outside of the mouth and jaw to access these muscles and release tension and imbalance, thereby affecting whole systems of musculature in the upper body.
